IL DOMINIO DI BAGNOLI
The Widmann-Borletti Villa

The seventeenth century Villa Widman-Borletti, has, for centuries, been the historic site of Dominio di Bagnoli and was the project of the famous architect Baldassare Longhena (Venice 1598-1682).The monumental complex is one of the most significant in the Veneto for size and beauty.
It comprises the Villa, the Brolo (including the pre-existing medieval monastery gardens), the theatre, the cellars, the granary, the stables and the pigeon loft.
There are forty statues located in the Italian gardens which were made by Antonio Bonazza during the eighteenth century. The group around the villa represents the 12 signs of the zodiac along with some of the gods of Olympus. Set apart, surrounded by a hornbeam hedge, are the statues representing figures from the Commedia dell’Arte.  Evoking the Goldoni comedies ,these statues today are the protagonists for the “Sons e Lumieres” show, which is presented in Venetian dialect.
